Nintendo Classic ‘Duck Hunt’ Rebooted in VR

By Tyler Koslow

One of the most iconic and popular video games of all time, Nintendo’s 1984 NES title Duck Hunt, might be a bit outdated, but who is to say that the classics can’t be reborn with a little help from emerging 3D technology? After attending this year’s Global Game Jam event, one 21-year-old developer from New Jersey named Joesph Delgado became inspired to take Duck Hunt, now over 30-years-old by the way, and reformat it for Virtual Reality.

I’m sure there were a lot of elements of both VR and Duck Hunt for Delgado to consider, implementing the classic Nintendo gun controller, tracking hand motions and ducks, and just making the VR experience as enjoyable as possible, for instance.…

How to 3D Print in Full Color: DIY Style

By Tyler Koslow

From Taiwan to Ireland, 3D printing enthusiasts around the world are preparing for the next big thing in additive manufacturing: full color 3D printing. 3D printing companies such as 3D Systems previously dominated the full color 3D printing race with the ColorJet Printing, but their hefty price tag of around $40k is discouraging for your average Maker and 3D printing enthusiasts. One user from Instructables.com named Jason Powell has just come up with a DIY path to bring full-color 3D printing to his redesigned Rostock Max, the popular delta 3D printer with a mere $1,000 price tag, making for a much more affordable color printer than any other company on the market.…

The Lunar Quattro Rover: One Small Step for Audi, One Giant Leap for 3D Printing

By Tyler Koslow

When it comes to implementing 3D printing in the manufacturing of automotive vehicles, German automobile company Audi has demonstrating their own use of the technology on a regular basis. Late last year, Audi had announced that their future use of metal-based 3D printing is imminent, and had even produced a fully 3D printed functional replica of the 1936 Auto Union Type C Grand Prix racer. Now, Audi is taking these efforts from planet Earth into outer space, collaborating with and sponsoring the Berlin-based team from Part Time Scientist to create the 3D printed Audi Lunar Quattro moon rover.…

Voxel8 3D Prints the ‘Fun’ in ‘Functional’ at CES 2016

By Tyler Koslow

When Voxel8, the 3D printing company started by Harvard Professor Jennifer Lewis (check out our interview with Professor Lewis here), showed up at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2015, they quickly won over the hearts of those looking to 3D print with a functional purpose, and was named by some as one of the top ideas displayed at the entire trade show. The Voxel8 team was able to steal last year’s show with their multi-material 3D printing demonstrations, showcasing their conductive printing ink and printed electronics, creating functional objects fresh off of their advanced 3D printers.…

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger: Adafruit Releases New Project for 3D Printed Daft Punk Helmet

By Tyler Koslow

Specializing in 3D printed DIY projects for open source tech company Adafruit, Noe Ruiz is certainly fond of the legendary electronic music duo Daft Punk. Back in 2014, Ruiz put together a DIY project that allowed customers to 3D print their own full-sized, LED-equipped Daft Punk helmet. The perfect project for an experienced Maker with which to ring in the New Year, Ruiz and the Adafruit team have revamped the previously released helmet project to include Bluetooth-controlled LED lights, giving those who are fans of both Daft Punk and 3D printing one more reason to ‘come on and celebrate’.…

By Tyler Koslow

What started as a Kickstarter by slo 3D creators founder Mike Balzer, has now become a collaborative effort to help hospitalized children use 3D printed virtual reality to aid in physical therapy and recovery. Although the Kickstarter campagin itself started of slowly and fell short of it’s goal, Balzer is still working hard to accomplish his true goal of getting his 3D printed NEODiVRjr devices into hospitals by Christmas.
