Alexis Walsh’s 3D Printed Fashion Hits the Catwalk at NYFW 2016

By Tyler Koslow

The biggest week of the year for New York City fashion is here yet again and already we are seeing the influence that 3D printing is exerting on the runway. Yesterday, we took a look at the nano enhanced and geometrically savvy 3D printed dresses created in collaboration between threeASFOUR and Travis Fitch, and, now, NYC-based fashion designer Alexis Walsh is also showing us what 3D printing technology can do for the fashion industry. Walsh put both her LYSIS Collection and The Spire Dress on display for NYFW, both of which use 3D printing to produce unique shapes and form.…

Nano Enhanced 3D Printing Struts the Runway at NYFW!

By Tyler Koslow

Over the past couple of years, the fashion industry has started to take notice of the functional and artistic value of using 3D printing technology. To find proof of this, you need not look further than New York Fashion Week, which has seen a huge spike of 3D printing technology on the runway as of recently. From the 3D printed fabrics used in Katya Leonovich’s Spring 2015 line to the shape-shifting 3D printed dress in Chromat’s MOMENTUM line, NYFW has set the stage for designers to use the emergence of 3D printing technology in a multitude of ways.…

Pet Pharma Giant Zoetis Implements Broad 3D Printing Ad & Education Campaign

By Michael Molitch-Hou

Taking advantage of the hype that has occurred with 3D printing over the past few years, marketing specialists have found new and unique ways of advertising products.  Whether it be 3D printing large-scale displays with Massivit’s enormous machine or shipping out 3D prints as part of a mail campaign, advertisers have a whole new set of tools at their disposal.  Most recently, pharmaceutical company Zoetis Inc. turned to the technology to launch a massive campaign across Canada to inform the public about flea infestation.…

RTI Surgical to Use OPM’s OsteoFab Technology for 3D Printed Spinal Implants

By Tyler Koslow

One of the world’s most prestigious surgical implant companies are turning to some very special 3D printing technology to help give their medical products a stronger backbone. Florida-based RTI Surgical has been granted an exclusive license to the medically driven 3D printing technology created by Oxford Performance Materials. The agreement will allow RTI Surgical to utilize OPM’s OsteoFab technology platform for spinal implant parts, which are manufactured from their biocompatible OXPEKK polymer on an EOSINT P800 industrial SLS 3D printing system.…

Own Your All-Time Favorite Super Bowl Matchup in 3D Printed Form!

By Tyler Koslow

Nothing defines American sports quite like the Super Bowl, a traditional gathering of the year’s two best NFL teams which (to me at least) is basically a national holiday at this point . Whether you spent last week’s Super Bowl rooting for the defense of the vicious Denver Broncos, mourning the loss from Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers, or just enjoying the insanely expensive commercials and/or Beyoncé’s halftime performance, you just so happened to witness the 50th Super Bowl in history.…

The 3D Printed Mechanical Chameleon that Knows When to Go Camo

By Tyler Koslow

It seems that some pretty cool news snuck by most of the world last month in the scientific journal ACS Nano. Perhaps it’s because it involves an actual camouflaging mechanical chameleon!

The research, which was conducted by a collaborative team from China’s Wuhan University and the Atlanta-based Georgia Institute of Technology, was aimed at reaching ‘optical invisibility’ by covering a 3D printed chameleon model in a plasmonic display. What these plasmons (aka ripples of electrons) allow for is real-time light manipulation that adapts to the color of the surrounding environment.…

Panthers Linebacker May Play Super Bowl in 3D Printed Brace

By Michael Molitch-Hou

As Super Bowl Sunday approaches, the Carolina Panthers are warming up to face off against the Denver Broncos. Not only can we expect all the grit and glory of two NFL leaders playing head to head in Santa Clara this Sunday, but we can also expect overly financed advertisements, mismatched Half Time performers, and the increasing use of 3D printing by fans, players, and companies associated with the event. This year, Panthers’ All-Pro linebacker Thomas Davis has leveraged the capabilities of the technology, wearing a personalized, 3D printed brace in the lead up to the Super Bowl.…

3DKreator Takes Kreator Motion 3D Printer Abroad with Seed Funding

By Michael Molitch-Hou

The international desktop 3D printing market is a competitive place and, while many manufacturers may find themselves successful within the niche of their home territory, brave (or financially well-off) companies may decide to make the move towards international expansion.  Within a marketplace already inundated with numerous desktop FFF machines, this is no easy task and not every company that makes that decision will see their products do well in foreign markets.  Polish manufacturer 3DKreator, then, has a lot to go up against as it seeks to move outside of its home country and sell its Kreator Motion 3D printer abroad.…
